Missouri power plant makes polluter list

LABADIE, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri power plant has been named a top polluter by an environmental watchdog group.

Ameren Missouri's Labadie (LA'-buh-dee) Energy Center is located along the Missouri River in Franklin County. Last week's report from the Environmental Integrity Project says the plant emitted 795 pounds of mercury in 2011.

The plant ranked seventh nationwide on the group's metal emissions list, based on the most recent data available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The environmental group's list named the top 10 plants that emit the most mercury in the U.S. The group says those 10 power plants accounted for 18 percent of mercury emissions nationwide in 2011.

Ameren says it continues to look for ways to reduce emissions in a cost-effective manner.
