JC Council renews Chamber contract

The Jefferson City Council approved the renewal of a contract with the Jefferson City Area Chamber for economic development services.

The contract renewal included the addition of performance measures to enable the council to look at the overall success of the services provided by the chamber. The metrics, which were first introduced to council members in November, originally were made up by city staff and then sent to Chamber President and CEO Randy Allen, who suggested an alternate list of measures.

JC Council should have stuck to their ideas on this one. That would have made the Chamber much more accountable.

The coucil correctly wanted "outcomes accountabiltiy". The Chamber weaseled in "inputs accountabiltiy" instead, which will lead to "We didn't get any outcomes because you need to give us more input$".

Shame on the Chamber for leading these poor sheep of councilpersons away from true accountability. The new contract smells intensly of manure, because it is. The council had it right the first time. They were so close, but now they are so far away...
