Your Opinion: Patient praises Meyer's cardiac care

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank William Steinmeier for his recent letter of Jan. 2 regarding Dr. Randy Meyer. I also agree with everything expressed in Steinmeier's letter.

I would like to express some very professional and personal comments regarding Dr. Meyer.

I have been a patient of Dr. Meyer for almost 20 years. During this time he pulled me through some very serious cardiac events. I can truly say that Dr. Meyer has saved my life and that his care has allowed me to lead a normal and active life.

Dr. Meyer has performed several cardiac procedures on me, however, he has always encouraged me to get second and third opinions. He had suggested that I visit the Mayo Clinic, which I did. After examining me and reviewing my records and films, the Mayo Clinic physicians told me that I was receiving excellent care and not to change what I was doing. I was told to continue the care provided by Dr. Meyer.

I also, at Dr. Meyer's suggestion, went to consult with three different physicians at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Following their review and examination, they also said that I was getting excellent care and that there was no additional care that they could provide for me. If the allegations against Dr. Meyer were true he would not be encouraging his patients to get second and third opinions.

We all need to thank our doctors and nurses for all they do for us. They are all hard working and dedicated professionals.

Each time I visit with Dr. Meyer I feel as though I am his only patient. He is a dedicated hard working and caring physician. We cannot afford to lose him.
