Jefferson City police investigate shots fired

Update, posted at 6:01 p.m. Saturday:

Jefferson City police recovered several spent pistol-caliber shell casings after investigating reports of shots fired in the eastern part of the city early Saturday.

The casings were picked up in the area of Olive and East High streets, where the first of several reports of witnesses hearing gunshots came in before 5 a.m. A caller also reported hearing one shot and seeing two vehicles leave the 900 block of Moreau Drive.

There were no reported injuries or cases of property damage related to the gunfire. No suspects or suspect vehicles have been identified so far.

Police are investigating several reports of gunshots being fired in eastern Jefferson City before 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Officers responded around 4:40 a.m. after callers reported hearing shots in the area of Olive and East High streets, as well as in the vicinity of Moreau Drive near Clark Avenue.

At approximately 4:51 a.m., police investigated a report of shots heard in the area of East McCarty Street near Eastland Drive. Then, around 4:58 a.m., an officer on patrol reported hearing shots from the area of Riverside Park.
