Your Opinion: Hunters irresponsible; drivers jeopardized

Dear Editor:

Missouri's deer hunters have a strong sense of entitlement.

Missouri's Department of Conservation has created a grossly inflated population of deer which is a bounty to hunters and a serious danger to the state's drivers. Last year 3,419 or 2.1 percent of Missouri's traffic accidents were deer-car collisions. Five deaths and 276 injuries resulted.

Each year, about one in 134 Missouri drivers will collide with a deer. Deer hunters never reveal any sense of responsibility for the destruction that their hobby causes.

No other minority group has ever held its head higher or been less responsible.
