More than 8K anglers expected at Mo. trout opener

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The opening of Missouri's catch-and-keep trout season is coming up.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says Friday, March 1, marks the opening of the trout season at Bennett Spring State Park, Montauk Park, Roaring River State Park and Meramec Spring Park. The department operates hatcheries at all four trout parks.

The long-range weather forecast for March 1 points to highs in the 40s and a small chance of rain. But the four state parks will be stocked with more than 25,000 trout. About 8,600 anglers are expected to turn out.

Gov. Jay Nixon is scheduled to fire the opening pistol at Montauk Hatchery near Licking, where about 2,500 people are expected.

Yeah I guess 'ol Jay will fly down to the fishin' hole to the tune of thousands of dollars on taxpayers expense, in the NEW plane I'm sure :-) .

Guess it could be worse - he could make it into a vacation (like King Obozo)

Why can't these f n politicians go play on their OWN MONEY????

Why shoot a pistol to start trout fishing season? Better yet, why waste money to announce the opening of any fishing/hunting activity? Those that are hunters/fishers know when the season opens, and the rest of the citizens would rather the elected official’s work on solving the current financial situation rather than going off fishing, wasting taxpayer money in both transportation and security costs.

That brand new $6, 000, 000.00 airplane wants to fly.
The governor probably wants to shoot a handgun before the feds take them awau.
