Officials remind public to keep hydrants clear
Emergency crews still need access despite snow
Sunday, February 24, 2013
If there’s a fire, Jefferson City firefighters don’t want to be searching for the nearest hydrant.
So they spent part of Saturday checking the city’s fire hydrants — and clearing away snow, where necessary.
Department administrators said some people piled snow around the hydrants as they cleared sidewalks and driveways.
And several parking lots had hydrants that needed to be “found,” possibly because contractors using heavy equipment didn’t see a hydrant when they were pushing snow off the lots.
But, with another storm predicted this coming week, the department asked all people who will be clearing snow to use caution — and keep the hydrants clear so they can be available for use, if needed.
