Dry weather is expected to continue Sunday before another storm system threatens Mid-Missouri on Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch in Mid-Missouri for Monday evening through Tuesday at noon with the potential of up to 10 inches of snow in the central portion of the storm's path. Rain may come before the snowfall during the day on Monday.
Forecasters report there's still some uncertainly on the exact track of the approaching storm, thus they can't pinpoint precisely where the heaviest snow might fall, but the storm will have all the necessary ingredients to produce heavy snowfall, including ample moisture, cold air and a very strong upper level disturbance.
It appears the greatest threat of heavy snow will enter west-central Missouri on Monday, move through parts of central and northeast Missouri beginning late Monday and continuing through Tuesday morning.
Sunday morning projections from the NWS indicate Jefferson City and Cole County may be just outside the band of heaviest snowfall, with accumulations of 2 to 3 inches possible, while Columbia and Sedalia may see from 5 to 10 inches. Lake of the Ozarks is also expected to be on the southern edge of the storm's path, with up to 3 inches of snow possible. However, the NWS notes that a slight shift in the track of the storm will cause a shift in the axis of heavy snow.
The upcoming winter storm follows on the heels of the Feb. 21 storm that dumped snow on most of Missouri. The following reports are precipitation totals from the previous storm.
