City responds to winter storm

The winter storm that hit Jefferson City on Thursday caused a suspension of residential trash service and bus service, and caused City Hall to close early.

But how city services will operate today was still questionable Thursday afternoon. City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus said it's hard to tell what will happen today, but the plan is for City Hall to be open and trash service to resume. A decision on city bus service likely will be made sometime this morning, he said, but it all comes down to the weather.

"I really have no idea what the weather is going to be like," Nickolaus said. "I would assume though that we're planning to resume near normal operations."

And though some city employees were sent home early due to weather, for many public works employees Thursday's shift likely extended into today. Road crews and plow drivers will work until city streets are clear, which could mean staying on the job all night and working to ensure a safer morning commute.
