Girls Basketball: St. Elizabeth 72, Wheatland 36

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Second-seeded St. Elizabeth cruised to a 72-36 victory against seventh-seeded Wheatland in the first round of the Class 1 District 6 Tournament on Tuesday night.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 23-7 lead after one quarter, increased their advantage to 38-16 at halftime and took a 61-28 edge into the final period.

Savannah Stiles and Allie Heckemeyer tallied 20 points apiece for St. Elizabeth, which saw 10 players reach the scoring column. The Lady Hornets shot 33-for-55 (60 percent) from the field.

Merissa Box led Wheatland with 16 points.

St. Elizabeth (19-7) plays third-seeded Macks Creek at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
