Man arrested for crashing into police car

A Webster Groves man faces charges after he reportedly drove into a Jefferson City police car and then tried to get away on Saturday morning.

Police claim Cory V. Ingram, 23, failed to stop at a stop sign when he sped southbound from Locust Street into a marked police vehicle headed eastbound in the 900 block of East McCarty Street. The collision occurred around 2:04 a.m.

Ingram allegedly sped away from the scene of the crash but was quickly apprehended a few blocks away. He was arrested on suspicion of felony leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, driving while revoked, and failing to stop at a stop sign.

Police characterized the damage to both vehicles as significant. The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to St. Mary’s Health Center's emergency room for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police allege Ingram’s blood alcohol content tested at .187. He was not injured. He's being held in the Cole County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.
