Boys Basketball: California 57, Tipton 56

TIPTON, Mo. — A last-second shot rimmed out as California held on for a 57-56 win against Tipton on Friday night.

Tipton led 14-6 after one quarter before California took a 28-25 halftime lead. The Pintos took a 41-34 advantage into the final quarter and led by 10 points with four minutes left. Tipton battled back to get the lead late but California pulled out the win.

California’s Austin Gump led all scorers with 22 points. Jaden Barr added 10 for the Pintos.

Ethan Koechner and Dylan Cooper paced Tipton with 14 points apiece. Wade Wood added 13 points for the Cardinals.

Tipton begins play in the Class 2 District 8 Tournament on Tuesday at Russellville. The second-seeded Cardinals take on seventh-seeded New Bloomfield.

California begins Class 3 District 8 play on Tuesday at Southern Boone. The sixth-seeded Pintos take on third-seeded Eugene.
