JC man sentenced in burglary case

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to an amended charge in a June 2012 burglary case.

Cori Leavell, 18, of 1209 W. Main St., pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property.

He had been charged with second-degree burglary and felony stealing.

Court documents say the burglary occurred at Leavell's residence.

A resident reported more than $4,000 in items had been taken.

A witness said she saw three black males, one being Leavell, run to a residence in 1300 block of West High Street carrying the stolen items.

The owner of the West High residence gave officers permission to search the structure.

Televisions, a gaming system and other items taken from the home on West Main were found.

Also stolen was a .380-caliber handgun that was never recovered.

A sawed-off, 20-gauge shotgun was recovered, but none of the suspects admitted to owning it.
