Your Opinion: Utility proposal eliminates controls

Dear Editor:

Well, I see our utility supplier has their tentacles in our wallet again. The consensus of the folks at both open hearings, 2011 and 2012, stated their distrust of Ameren officials and the members of the Missouri Public Service Commission.

This latest bill S8207 will only solidify that feeling and hopefully adds Sen. Kehoe, who sponsored that bill. We the consumer are faced with the fact that we are dealing with a monopoly, and they have added the senator to their cause.

If this bill is passed this will open the door for Ameren to run through our wallets at will and eliminate cost controls. The MPSC is there to help control costs, but as we all know, they don't. The claim that the MPSC will at some date after the rate increase, review this for justification is a farce. It will be next to impossible to have a rate rescinded. Whatever happened to the nearly $1 billion dollars AmerenUE was approved in rate increases by the MPSC over the last five increases? Wasn't this the reason for the increases, to assist them with their infrastructure improvements ?

Our lawmakers need to heed their constituents concerns and who they represent.
