Lincoln track and field racks up 18 top-eight finishes over the weekend

AMES, Iowa - The Lincoln track and field teams racked up 18 top-eight finishes in the Iowa State Classic held Thursday through Saturday.

The biggest result for Lincoln came on the women's side of the event, as the Blue Tigers' Latoya King won the seeded running of the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 24.16.

She was one of four Blue Tigers running in the race, as Yanique Ellington took fourth in 24.60, Jenea Johnson came in sixth in 24.87 and Tamara Keane placed seventh at 25.01.

Among other seeded events, Sherikaye Campbell placed third in the seeded high jump (5-4 1/2), Twishana Williams finished eighth in the seeded 800-meter run (2:45.03), and Shakeisha Miller placed seventh in the seeded long jump (18- 1/4). Miller also finished fourth in the non-seeded triple jump (37-5 1/4).

Also for Lincoln, Anna-Kay James took second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.54), Lovan Palmer finished second in the non-seeded 800-meter run (2:13.23), Ellington placed fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.67) and Donna-Lee Hylton took sixth in the non-seeded 200-meter dash (25.13).

Lincoln came in fourth in the distance medley relay, where the team of Palmer, Nicketa Coombs, Monique Thompson and Williams clocked in at 11:57.85.

Also at the Classic, Missouri-Kansas City's Stephany Johnson (Jefferson City High School) took second in the seeded triple jump (40-3 1/4).

On the men's side, Lincoln's Jermaine Blake won the non-seeded 800-meter run in 1:52.63.

The Blue Tigers had two finishers in both the seeded and non-seeded 600-yard run. In the seeded race, Neville Daley took fifth (1:11.75) and Tyrone Hawkins took eighth (1:12.82), while in the non-seeded edition, Shaquan Williams was fifth (1:13.97) and Jovaun Matin was eighth (1:15.09).

Also for Lincoln, Sabiel Anderson took sixth in the 60-meter dash (8.04).
