The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded several Mid-Missouri transportation improvement projects at its meeting Wednesday in Jefferson City.
Jefferson Asphalt was awarded a contract to overlay approximately eight miles of Route M from Route B to U.S. 50 in Cole County and six miles of Route E from U.S. 63 to Missouri 89 in Osage County.
The contractor submitted the lowest bid of $708,670. The work will be done during the year’s construction season.
A project to overlay approximately 29 miles of Missouri 87 in Cooper and Moniteau counties was also awarded. APAC-Missouri of Columbia was awarded the project with a low bid of $3.8 million.
Another contract was awarded for work on the Osage River bridge on Route B in Cole County.
The bridge, north of St. Thomas, will be repaired by Lehman Construction of California, which was awarded the contract after submitting the lowest bid of $2.8 million. The work will be done during this year’s construction season.
The bridges over the Lamine River and Union Pacific railroad four miles west of Syracuse will be repaired this summer under a contract awarded to APAC-Missouri. The contractor submitted the lowest bid of $1.7 million.
APAC will also repair the Osage River bridge on westbound U.S. 54 near Lake Ozark after submitting the lowest bid of $834,561.
A project to construct a diverging diamond interchange at Stadium Boulevard and Interstate 70 in Columbia is moving forward. Emery Sapp and Sons of Columbia was awarded the contract after submitting the low bid of $12.7 million.
In addition to the new diverging diamond interchange, the project will widen Stadium from just north of I-70 to south of Broadway. The project also includes adding two lanes to Bernadette Drive from Fairview Road to Beverly Drive.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring and be complete in late 2014. Funding for the improvements comes from a cost-share agreement between MoDOT and the city of Columbia.
