Lincoln starts recruiting class with 11 players

After ranking last in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in points allowed last year, it appears Lincoln wanted to get an early start on fixing some of its defensive issues from 2012.

Lincoln inked 11 players Wednesday, eight of those played on the defensive side of the ball in high school.

The Blue Tigers allowed more than 40 points per game last season.

Among the highlights for Lincoln's class includes Charleston High School defensive back Sumner Foster. Foster was selected to the Class 2 all-state team as a senior as he helped his squad to a 9-3 record.

Boonville receiver Demario Walker also signed Wednesday. Walker was a first-team all-district selection as he finished with 34 catches as a senior.

Lincoln also added offensive lineman Bryce Thomsen from Blue Springs High School. Thomsen, 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, helped lead the Wildcats to a Class 6 state title in 2012.

Of the 11 signings, seven are from Missouri.
