Lincoln off to play Emporia State

The Lincoln Blue Tiger men’s and women’s basketball teams will be hitting the road a lot in the next few weeks.

Lincoln will play its next four games on the road, starting tonight with games at Emporia State.

The women’s game will start the MIAA doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.

Lincoln (9-10 overall, 4-7 conference) will be facing one of the hottest teams in the conference as Emporia State (12-6, 5-2) has won five straight games.

Laura Patrick leads Emporia State in scoring at 14.8 points per contest. Rachel Hanf, the reigning MIAA Player of the Week, is next at 12.7. She averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two victories last week.

Arriana Walker, a senior, leads the conference in steals at 3.4 per contest and assists at 4.4. She also leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points, while pulling down 5.3 rebounds.

Two other Blue Tigers — seniors Freddie Sims (13.0) and Dahlia Booker (11.6) — are averaging in double figures in scoring.

Emporia State was picked to finish third in preseason polls by the coaches and the media.

The men’s game, featuring a pair of teams hungry for a win, will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Lincoln (3-18), 2-9) is currently one game out of a spot in the MIAA Tournament and a win tonight would would give the Blue Tigers a tie-breaking advantage.

Cedric Ridle Jr. is averaging 17.6 points per game this season for the Blue Tigers, with that number going to 18.1 in conference contests.

Emporia State (8-10, 3-7), picked 10th in the preseason by both the coaches and the media, is trying to snap a three-game losing streak.

Kaleb Wright leads the Hornets at 14.1 points per game. Paul Bunch (13.3) and Chris Sights (11.6) also average in double figures.
