Your Opinion: Response to Schilling on outlawing guns

Dear Editor,

I'd like to respond to Mr. Schilling's letter from Feb. 1. In the letter he wrote "you no longer be a law-abiding, Constitution-loving taxpayer you will be an outlaw" and in his last sentence he wrote "even if they (guns) have to be pried from "cold, dead hands.'"

So what you are saying is that you would make people criminals who have done nothing more than own a hunk of metal designed to project slugs at high speed, and you would, well since you don't believe in gun ownership, have the government go out and systematically hunt down and kill millions of Americans in a holocaust to collect these guns, in order to, possibly, prevent one single deranged person from killing a few? Isn't that like killing the patient to cure the disease?

You see guns are nothing more than projectile accelerators and whether or not they kill depends on where you point them when you turn them on. Millions of Americans own this type and many more types of guns and yet we aren't in a civil war, our streets aren't bathed in blood. Why? Because millions are safe, intelligent compassionate individual gun owners.

Our country was founded on the belief of innocent till proven guilty. You are making guilty and want to punish, by death, millions of innocent Americans. For what, because you live in terror or you want to hurt somebody, anybody for what Mr. Lanza did?
