Unlimited access to News Tribune now available
Tuesday, February 5, 2013
Beginning today, the News Tribune will be providing subscribers unlimited access to the stories we publish on www.newstribune.com http://www.newstribune.com .
“A digital subscription will provide readers with the best of our print edition and much more — when and where they want to read it,” said Terri Leifeste, general manager of the Jefferson City News Tribune. “For those who aren’t subscribers, we’ll provide access to 10 online pages each 30 days. But we’re hopeful that you’ll come back for more and will subscribe for full access.
“Print subscribers could always access the full newspaper online at no extra charge, while non-subscribers could read abbreviated local news,” Leifeste said. “Now, there’s one seamless website where subscribers can have complete access, while non-subscribers can have access to 10 full stories a month. As always, obituaries, classifieds and breaking news will be available to everyone.”
As a subscriber, you will be able to read the complete story, rather than the truncated stories we’ve posted in the past.
For unlimited access to all of our coverage — including breaking news, community forums, photo and video galleries, and more — you can subscribe to a monthly or annual subscription for as little as $12.93 per month. Just click on the link below.
If you’re already a seven-day News Tribune print subscriber, you will get immediate and unlimited access to www.newstribune.com http://www.newstribune.com . Just click on the link below.

Paper is too small to cost so much a yr and columbia paper even has the stories a day in advance.

Going to cut down on the amount of trolling done in the opinion section. Make Rick's life a lot easier for sure.

I agree with MO4, this paper is not worth $12+a month.

The News Tribune has definitely gone downhill since the Weldon’s sold it!.

Been a good run. Thanks for the memories! I'd just rather buy the paper 3x weekly as I usually do at vendor price.

My biggest complaint, and reason I don't read the printed paper much anymore, is the switch to a morning edition. I tend to read the paper in the evening when I get home. By then, the news in the morning edition is nearly 24 hours stale from the day before. The old evening edition had fresh news from the day- often as late as 2 or 3 pm.
There are more sources online (TV sites, etc.) to even get local news much more timely than the newspaper. Of course, the NT website is often updated as news happens, and that is greatly appreciated.
i can see that print newspapers are quickly becoming a relic of the past. Online will be the way we get most of our news and information in the very short future. However, if News Tribune should ever decide to return to the evening paper, I will be first one to jump to that option!
BTW: The Android app for TV Guide will make you throw the printed TV directory away! TV Guide online and Android App ROCK!!!

Time to start using the actual account that comes with our subscription I guess. Will be interesting to see how this will change the dynamic of commenting and trolling.

It won't

Your subscription confirmation on the NewsTribune.com website gives you complete access to our online content. It requires its own log in and its own password. The two systems are not combined.

I am sorry but your explanation makes no sense to me.
Are you saying that there will be no changes to this forum and non-subscribers will continue to be able to post comments and read the shorter clipped articles but only get the 10 full pages listed above per month?
I have logged in with the account that is directly attached to our daily print subscription and have seen no difference except the entire articles are available as compared to this account I use to post comments with. Are you saying I will continue to be able to view things and comment int he same way? Honestly the above article makes it sound like a non-subscribing account will only have access to 10 articles a month, yet your reply suggest otherwise.
I believe a little clarification is in order here as I am more confused after your reply to my comment.

I'll elaborate on what he was trying to convey this way: If you're logged in with your subscription account (note: print subscribers at no extra charge), your access will be unrestricted as a subscriber. If you're logged in with only your commenting account (forum screen name), that is, you're not a subscriber, you'll be limited to accessing 10 full articles per month; so in effect, you could comment on only the articles you can see. (Access to obituaries and posting condolences are not limited nor counted, and breaking news items will be unrestricted.) Thus, no truncated stories anywhere anymore; you'll either see the full article on this site or be asked to log in. Hope that helps.

Thank you. That was how I first understood it to be and it makes sense now.
As I said I guess I will have to abandon this account and begin using the one attached to our print subscription.
One last question if you see it and/or answer or know the answer, otherwise I will contact the office directly when it becomes more pressing. Can subscriptions have more than one forum comment account? The wife may not really appreciate having her and my opinions locked into the same forum name/handle.

The forum accounts will remain the same, so simply keep using what you're using. The subscription access is a different database, and will control access to the pages, not commenting. Confusing, I know, but the advantage is you don't have to change that.

Not a subscriber, so I guess this is the last of dispatch from the old Sequoia. Without getting all misty, it's been fun on the comment section.
Regardless of one's opinion, taking the time to put it down in words in a back-and-forth with others makes one sharper. Competition encourages vitality. Good writing demands precise thinking. Putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) is like putting out roots. Some have the guts and patience to go deeper than others.
My main comment has always been to show how the conservative "movement" has subjugated conservative principles. Any true conservative in the Republican party has been drummed out by the ideological conservative "movement," which is a series of big-business-friendly policies sold to voters with rhetoric intentionally designed to arouse racial, religious, nationalistic and sexual anxiety. Even now, Missouri Republican legislature would have the state reject Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act simply because they don't like anything having to do with Obamacare, costing the state money, jobs and health care. It's insane.
On the local level, the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce can look no further than the conservative movement knee-jerk anti-government ideology propogated by the national Chamber for the demise of local projects that would have benefited local business owners, workers and residents.
That's why good conservatives are rejecting the Republican party and looking back to the basic conservative principles of individual freedom, live-and-let-live social politics, and pride in local excellence.
We still have work to do. A big tree grows slowly. Don't indulge panic, but let all things go their way and return to the Source.
Things ARE getting better.
Chop away, trolls. I've got another thousand years in me, easily.

Someone claiming to be Conservative and then criticizing a small-government movement as "knee jerk".
Won't miss that.

So those of us who don't want to pay $12 a month for news don't get to read any stories, not even the trunc'd ones? I'm confused... Are you advertising revenues really THAT bad that it can't support free online news? Guess I'll just depend on KRCG for my news stories.
online_editor 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Non-subscribers will be able to access 10 complete (not truncated) stories per month. And of course, they'll be able to see the list of headlines and their descriptions on various index pages like Latest, Sports, Local News, State News, Business, etc., via the navigation menu, just like before. The trunc'd (love that contraction of the word, btw) stories will be history.

That's just stupid. You're losing many viewers with that decision.

Good bye everyone. It was great while it lasted. KRCG here I come.

KRCG sounds like the way to go. Do not pay these fools to use their newspaper. I mean seriously most media is free on the internet and it is not hard to find. You oldies may have to ask your grand kids but, newspapers are a thing of the past anyway. Newstribune I hope you know that you are only speeding up your undeniable death. As people do not depend on your old fashioned newspaper for news anymore. Since you started printing, we have invented the radio, tv, and the internet. All of which have free news. Ask yourself, why would I pay newstribune to view the news and post my opinion when, I could do so for free on KRCG.com and never have to pay. Video killed the radio star my friends, you days are numbered. Seriously if you buy the newspaper post your age. I am curious to know..b/c I highly doubt my generation will get their news from a delivered paper. Just sayin...
online_editor 3 months, 2 weeks ago
We think we've progressed to the stage of being multi-media actually, but obviously subscribing is a matter of individual choice, as you all are interactively expressing (thanks for taking time to give feedback). Speaking of trying to gauge generational popularity, here's a tweet from a follower that provides an additional anecdote: twitter.com/stephaniesbell/status/298831302902300673.

Just remember that at one time the Weldons were involved in the paper, NT, KWOS the radio station, and KRCG TV. With Bomm declaring his defection to TV 13's blog, he would be better served by going to TV 8's State controlled media, because Betty guiding hand surely shaped the structure of both of these other Media outlets in Central Missouri! I on the other hand like reading the paper, but I do need to mix some of the conservetism from th NT, with a little slowly changing Liberal news from the Post Dispatch to get a good blend of the NEWS! Guess it's goodbye for me as well. I'll use KRCG and the Columbia newspapers online. It's sad the NT couldn't at least keep the truncated versions free like always. Too many other online free sources for news, leave it to NT to start charging.

It was a great run I will be on STLtoday, KRCG, KOMU, and KMIZ for free
