Dear Editor:
When an individual quotes someone, does that necessarily mean that you agree with everything that person has said or done? I don't think so. There is only one individual that I have ever quoted that I agree with everything they have said or done and that person is my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
When President Jimmy Carter said at a news conference, "that the poor will always be with us," he was quoting the Bible. Matthew 26: 11 states, "For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always." To me Carter was the most moral president in my lifetime of 69 years. He also was the worst in my lifetime. Wait a minute; I think the current occupant of the White House is very close. Just because I think Carter is the worst president, doesn't prevent me from using some of his quotes that are correct and on point.
By the way, in the late 1970s, George Wallace announced that he was a born-again Christian and apologized to black civil rights leaders for his past actions as a segregationist. He said that while he had once sought power and glory, he realized he needed to seek love and forgiveness. In 1979, Wallace said of his stand in the schoolhouse door: "I was wrong. Those days are over, and they ought to be over."
When I was a boy my Dad would often say that even a blind squirrel would find an acorn once in a while. There are many notable individuals that from time to time say things that are worthy of note. That doesn't necessarily mean you might agree with everything that individual has said or stands for. When they are right, they are right, on that particular point.
When George Wallace said that there wasn't a dimes worth of difference between the Washington Republicans and Democrats, he was telling it like it is. I do agree that there are some differences, but those differences get fuzzy the longer our representatives are in Washington.
Both parties want to take our money and spend us into oblivion. They spend it on different things, but it still gets spent. They are also power hungry and will do almost anything to stay in power and control the purse strings.
By the way, which political party did George Wallace belong to, huh?
