Lines were out the door Friday and Monday at the Cole County Collector's Office.
"We know people don't like to pay taxes and we understand they wait to the last minute to do so," Cole County Collector Larry Vincent said.
As of this past Thursday, Vincent said his office has collected about $1 million more in personal property taxes this year compared to this time last year.
"We're looking to take in over $64 million in personal property taxes and over $3 million in railroad and utility taxes," he said.
The office is open until 4:30 p.m. today. After that, residents can still pay their taxes without penalty by dropping their payments in the office's collection box outside the office in the courthouse annex on High Street.
Residents will also not be considered late if they mail their payments and they have a Dec. 31 postmark on them.
"We're looking at getting about 96-97 percent of taxes collected, which is about normal," Vincent said.
