Wrongful death suit filed against Hazelwood police

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - The family of a man who died after a struggle with suburban St. Louis police has filed a wrongful death suit.

The lawsuit alleges 40-year-old Antonio Johnson, of Glasgow Village, was shocked multiple times with a stun gun and beaten until he lost consciousness when he was arrested in July on suspicion of drunken driving.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1cx7qBB) reports that the suit was filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court. It also says that Johnson was left handcuffed on the floor of the Hazelwood city jail for several hours before an ambulance was called.

City attorney Peter Dunne says St. Louis County Police were asked to investigate to avoid any perception of a conflict and that they concluded there was no wrongdoing on the part of officers.
