Upper Arlington blasts Tulsa Central

At the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic

Upper Arlington looked like a team that deserved to play in a championship game.

The Golden Bears will get that opportunity.

Upper Arlington jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and cruised to a 58-22 victory against Tulsa (Okla.) Central in a winner's bracket semifinal game at the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic on Saturday night at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Kevin Vannatta scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Golden Bears, who will face Louisville (Ky.) Western for the title at 6 p.m. today.

Upper Arlington was 21-of-26 from the field and claimed a 27-13 rebounding advantage against Tulsa Central, which will play Oxford (Miss.) for third place at 4:30 p.m.

The Golden Bears established a 15-5 lead after the first quarter before outscoring the Braves 17-5 in the second quarter to take a 32-10 lead into halftime.

Vannatta scored 16 of his points in the first half for Upper Arlington, which was 12-of-23 from the field in the first two quarters.

The Golden Bears poured in 18 more points in the third quarter to take a 50-18 lead into the final period and didn't look back from there.

Cameron Williams scored 12 points to lead Tulsa Central, which was 7-of-36 from the field and 2-of-17 from behind the arc.
