Tulsa Central tops Oxford to take third

Tulsa (Okla.) Central overcame a 10-point deficit late in the third quarter and went on to claim a 56-48 win against Oxford (Miss). in the third-place game at the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse on Sunday night.

Elijah Landrum scored a game-high 18 points and Ariyon Smith added 12 to lead the Braves, who were 22-of-54 from the field and 10-of-17 from the free-throw line.

Oxford had a 39-29 lead with just under two minutes to play in the third quarter, but Tulsa Central ended the period on 9-2 run and scored the first 11 points in the fourth quarter to take a 49-41 lead with 5:50 left in the game.

Oxford put together a 7-2 run over the next two minutes to make it a 3-point game with just over three minutes on the clock.

D.J. Daniels' layup with 1:02 remaining gave Tulsa Central a 53-48 lead and the Braves rebounded a missed 3-point attempt to seal it.

Tulsa Central came out of the first half with a 23-22 advantage after trading leads nine times in the first two quarters.

Shelby McEwen scored 16 points to lead the Chargers, who were 20-of-52 from the field and 4-of-7 from the free-throw line.

David Dennis added 13 points and recorded nine rebounds help pace Oxford, which committed 25 turnovers.
