BizBeat: CenturyLink expands services

Home security used to mean simply locking your doors or placing a "Beware of Dog" sign on the fence. Technology is, however, allowing consumers to keep a closer eye on their property. It also provides a convenience never before possible, such as remotely locking and unlocking doors, turning lights on and off, and adjusting the thermostat for convenience and energy savings with a simple click of a button, from miles away from homeowners' doorsteps.

CenturyLink High-Speed Internet has expanded its offerings in Missouri to include these new interactive services and help customers protect and manage their homes by monitored home security, home automation and energy management features.

"Whether you're home or away, at your desk or on the go, CenturyLink Smart Home makes it easy to monitor your property and protect the things that matter most in life," Vice President and General Manager Karen Crabtree said. "The system's customizable features, from video monitoring to remote home management, provide simple functionality and peace of mind."

The Smart Home system will provide customers with a new level of security utilizing live video cameras, 24/7 professional monitoring service and the opportunity to see and control the services using a touch-screen panel or their smartphones, tablets and computers.

Another available feature includes receiving text and email alerts when there are open doors and windows, unexpected movements and even when the house gets too cold or hot.

These features and more are accessible from any device connected to the Internet or from an interactive touch-screen display in the home.
