Library adding digital magazines

Missouri River Regional Library (MRRL) is now offering digital magazines to library patrons.

The magazines are available through Zinio - a free app that can be downloaded to phones, tablets and computers.

Bryan Dunlap, technical services manager at MRRL, said nearly 50 magazines are available through the service.

A few of the magazines include Cosmopolitan, Field & Stream, Forbes, Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Seventeen and Us Weekly.

"The nice thing is that they (patrons) will be able to peruse popular magazine titles from the comfort of their own home," Dunlap said. "Between this and digital books, it will be more convenient to get more resources."

Dunlap said the library will continue to offer paper copies of magazines to patrons at the library on Adams Street.

"Depending on the success of this program, we'll re-evaluate to see if we still need the copies," he said. "In general, libraries are moving to more digital resources."

He said there is a link on the library's homepage, www.mrrl.org, that takes patrons to the library's Zinio page. Patrons can set up Zinio accounts from that page so that they may view the magazines.

"I'm personally excited about it and interested to see how it goes over," Dunlap said. "If a patron can't get to the library because they're out in rural Cole County, this is nice outreach for them."
