Jays wrestling in first after one day

VERSAILLES, Ky. - The Jefferson City Jays lead a 30-team field after the first day of the Woodford County Wrestling Invitational.

The Jays have 98.5 points after Friday's action. North Hardin (Ky.) is second with 86, while Gordon Lee (Ga.) is third with 85.5.

Jefferson City has six wrestlers in today's semifinals - Corbin Howard at 120 pounds, Christian Mayberry at 126, Jacob Brune at 132, Alec Bise at 138, Jalen Laughlin at 170 and Ian Coil at 195.

The Jays have all but one wrestler still alive in the double-elimination tournament. Logan Moriarity at 145 pounds suffered a concussion during his first-round victory and was pulled from the tournament.

"The kids have all been wrestling well," Jays coach Phil Cagle said. "It should be a great final day."

Jefferson City is the lone Missouri school in the event.
