When Tom and Patsy Hoeferlin opened Valley Park Retirement Center in April 2012, they couldn't have anticipated how quickly they would need to expand. The Holts Summit facility, located at 355 Karen Drive, occupied all of its units after just eight months in business.
"Holts Summit has been very good for us," Tom said.
The retirement center recently completed an addition that included nine new units,
living area, a complete kitchen for private family dinners, a second screened-in porch and an in-house beauty salon. Valley Park opened the addition with 90 percent occupancy. Currently there are 21 beds rented with only one opening.
"I think the expansion went real well," Tom said of the renovation constructed by local companies under the supervision of RS Construction Company.
The Hoeferlins have been involved in the health care business for more than 30 years, and in residential care for 12 years. Tom and Patsy praised their staff members and the manager, Rese Bell, who care for the residents around the clock, 24/7.
"Our staff is the main reason we have been successful here," Tom noted.
More endeavors are surely in store for the Hoeferlins; however, Tom said he's not sure what's next.
