Missouri State rolls to win against Missouri

SPRINGFIELD - A team with a record of 10-1 playing a 2-6 squad appeared to be a mismatch.

It was, just not in the way you might have thought.

The Missouri State Lady Bears improved to 3-6 on the year by handling the Missouri Tigers 67-53 on Thursday night.

The Tigers were unable to overcome a whopping 26 turnovers as they trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half.

Missouri State was in control throughout, scoring the game's first eight points. The Lady Bears led by 15 points on three different occasions in the first half, including the 40-25 edge they held at halftime.

Missouri State took the biggest lead of the contest when Kenzie Williams made a layup with 11:46 remaining to make it 53-35.

That's when Missouri made one last charge, putting together a 15-3 run, getting to within 56-50 when Sierra Michaelis made a layup with 5:11 remaining.

But back-to-back jumpers by Missouri State's Tyonna Snow started an 11-3 spurt for the Lady Bears to finish the game.

Snow led the winners with 14 points, while Williams and Bry Snow added 11 each.

Michaelis was the only Tiger to score in double figures, as she had 14. Bri Kulas had a game-high 11 rebounds for Missouri (10-2) and Jordan Frericks added 10 boards.

Missouri returns to action Sunday at home against Western Illinois, while Missouri State hosts Southeast Missouri State on Saturday.
