Fund created to assist accident victim's family

As Katherine O'Neal continues to recover from the burns and other injuries she suffered in a traffic accident last week, a fund has been created at Jefferson Bank of Missouri to help the family.

O'Neal, 28, was pulled from her burning Jeep after a Dec. 10 accident at the intersection of Wehmeyer Drive and Missouri 94, opposite the ABB plant at the northern edge of Jefferson City, in southern Callaway County.

The accident happened at 5:27 p.m. when, Jefferson City police reported, O'Neal apparently pulled her eastbound 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee from Wehmeyer Road into Missouri 94, and into the path of Laura Adamik's eastbound 2006 Jeep Wrangler.

Adamik, 37, Tebbetts, was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.

After police officers and bystanders used fire extinguishers to start dousing the flames, firefighters squelched the blaze and extricated O'Neal from her Jeep.

O'Neal is a Jefferson City government employee, and a member of the Holts Summit Fire Department's auxiliary. Her husband is a Holts Summit volunteer firefighter.

People wishing to make donations should make their checks payable to: "The Katherine O'Neal Benefit Fund."

The checks can be delivered to any Jefferson Bank location.
