Lincoln women fall to Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team jumped out to an eight-point lead in the first three minutes and cruised to a 71-50 win against Lincoln in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup on Saturday.

The Lopers (4-4, 1-2) placed three players in double figures and claimed a 52-32 rebounding advantage against the Blue Tigers, who were 17-of-70 (24 percent) from the field.

Angela Randall scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds to lead Lincoln (3-7, 0-3), while Jennifer Rosado, Nesha Wright and Hunter Yoakum each added nine points.

Nebraska-Kearney, which snapped a four-game losing streak, used a 15-0 run to take a 25-6 lead with 9:26 left in the first half. Lincoln responded by outscoring the Lopers 14-8 to close out the first half, still trailing 33-20.

Yoakum hit a 3-pointer to bring Lincoln within 11 with 17:44 left in the game, but Nebraska-Kearney would make sure the Blue Tigers wouldn't get any closer. The Lopers put together a 19-6 run to take a 58-34 lead with 7:21 remaining and they didn't look back from there.

Lincoln was 4-of-18 (22 percent) from behind the arc and 20-of-32 (62 percent) from the foul line.

Amarah Williams scored a game-high 13 points and recorded 10 rebounds to lead Nebraska-Kearney, which was 27-of-63 from the field (42 percent) and 15-of-18 from the charity stripe.

The Blue Tigers will take on Washburn at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19 in Topeka, Kan., before returning home Jan. 4 to host Emporia State at 1:30 p.m.
