Human remains discovered In Central Missouri

The Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, along with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Gasconade County Sheriff’s Office are involved in an investigation related to the discovery of a human bone fragment near the Missouri River.

"We are purposely not saying what we found or where we found it because this is so preliminary," said Sgt. Kevin Hunter. "We don't know if this could have been here just a few days or hundreds of years."

Hunter said they don't want people to possibly go to the area and contaminate what could be a crime scene.

"We also don't want to get into too much specifics right now so we don't get people's hopes up," he said. " i know there are number of cases of missing persons that could be tied to something like this, but we simply don't have all the information yet to get into specifics.'

Hunter said the fragment was found this week.

The investigation is ongoing and Hunter said further information would be coming when they could get more specifics.
