Deeken headlines Missouri volleyball

Fresh off its most successful campaign in program history, the Missouri volleyball team announced Wednesday the additions of three prospects.

California standout Sydney Deeken, Rock Bridge's Ali Kreklow and Kasy Reuter of Hinton, Iowa recently signed national letters of intent to play for the Tigers in 2014.

"Overall, I am just really excited about this class," Missouri coach Wayne Kreklow said. "The thing that stands out to me the most about this group is the overall athletic ability. All three of the kids are multi-sport athletes and have incredibly high ceilings. I think the track and field numbers alone will speak to the type of athletes that these kids are. They are all high-character kids that will fit into our program very well."

Deeken comes to Missouri after earning first-team all-state honors during her senior year at California, where she helped lead the Lady Pintos to a pair of conference championships in 2010 and 2011 and a district title in 2011. A 6-foot-1 outside hitter, Deeken was also named the Tri-County Conference Most Valuable Player in 2012 and 2013 and was a first team all-district selection from 2011-13.

"She is a big, physical kid that can play at a really high level above the net," Wayne Kreklow said. "The biggest thing about her is she is just an elite jumper that should help us immediately."

A gifted track and field athlete, Deeken was the state champion in the long jump and triple jump as a junior and holds the California school record in both those events, in addition to the high jump.

Deeken was also a first-team all-state selection on the basketball court as a junior and is a three-time all-conference and all-district honoree as well.

"She is just an outstanding athlete and an elite jumper," Wayne Kreklow said. "She has been a multi-sport athlete her whole life and really started to focus heavily on volleyball a year ago, so she has a really high ceiling. She has the size and athletic ability to be a featured player at the Division I level."

Deeken will join forces with Ali Kreklow, who led Rock Bridge to the Class 4 state quarterfinals as a senior.
