A Holts Summit woman was rescued from her burning Jeep Tuesday evening after it and another Jeep collided in north Jefferson City.
Emergency personnel responded around 5:27 p.m. to the scene of the crash on Missouri 94 near the entrance to the ABB plant.
One of the two Jeeps caught on fire following the crash, with its 28-year-old driver, Katherine O'Neal, trapped inside.
Police officers and bystanders initially used fire extinguishers in an attempt to dowse the flames and remove O'Neal. Firefighters then arrived to extricate her while squelching the blaze.
O'Neal was transported to University Hospital, Columbia, with serious injuries.
Police report O'Neal was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Wehmeyer Road while Laura Adamik, 37, of Tebbetts, was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on Highway 94. The Cherokee was initially stopped and then pulled onto the highway in front of the Wrangler, resulting in the crash.
Amadik was transported from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, police said. Both drivers appeared to have been wearing their seat belts.
