California advances to title game of Eugene Invitational

EUGENE - California is off to the championship game.

The top-seeded Lady Pintos defeated the fourth-seeded Russellville Lady Indians 62-56 in the semifinals Wednesday night. California will play third-seeded Boonville in the title game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Upset-minded Rusellville led 13-10 after one period and 25-23 at halftime. California turned it on in the third quarter, taking a 45-36 advantage into the finial quarter.

Mara Caudel paced the Lady Pintos with 14 points, while Kameron Koetting added 10.

A.J. Grellner led Russellville with 23 points, while Hannah Matthews tallied 10.

California improves to 2-1, while Russellville (0-2) takes on Eugene in the fourth-place game today.

Boonville beat second-seeded Blair Oaks 61-28 in the other semifinal.

The Lady Pirates led 12-7 after one quarter, 35-15 at halftime and 52-21 after three quarters.

LeeAnn Polowy and Sara Jones both scored eight points to lead the Lady Falcons.

Morgan Edwards tallied 18 points for Boonville, while Paige Renfrow added 13.

Blair Oaks (1-1) takes on Versailles at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the third-place game.

On the boys' side, sixth-seeded St. Elizabeth topped seventh-seeded Russellville 57-34 in a loser's bracket semifinal.

St. Elizabeth led 13-9 after one quarter, 28-16 at halftime and 35-25 after three periods.

Brian Wilde paced the Hornets with 19 points, Braden Holtmeyer added 16 while Travis Miner had 10.

Coy Bond tossed in 12 points for the Indians.

Russellville's tournament is finished, while St. Elizabeth (1-2) takes on fifth-seeded School of the Osage at 6 p.m. today in the fifth-place game.
