Blair Oaks falls to Moberly, 48-18

MOBERLY, Mo. — Moberly was a tough matchup for Blair Oaks on Friday night. The Spartans’ offense couldn’t be stopped.
The Class 4 Spartans scored on the opening kickoff and didn’t look back, blasting the Class 2 Falcons 48-18 in the season opener for both teams.
“They’ve got a lot of good athletes out there,” Blair Oaks head coach Brad Drehle said. “They took advantage of running a lot of bodies out there. And as they did, our kids got tired and they were able to take advantage of that speed.”
Gregg Bain didn’t waste much time in ruining Blair Oaks’ night, returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. He then found the end zone from 5 yards out with 3:07 left in the opening quarter to make it 13-0.
Moberly didn’t let up in the second quarter. Justin Connaway hit Blake Joiner for a 13-yard touchdown pass with 9:27 left before halftime to make it 20-0.
Blair Oaks got on the scoreboard with 6:02 remaining in the second quarter on a 10-yard scamper from Caleb Bischoff to make it 20-6.
Moberly made it 26-6 with 3:22 to go before halftime, as Connaway and Joiner teamed up again.
Blair Oaks opened the third quarter with a long drive before fumbling the ball away. Moberly’s Chris Palmer scored on the next play to make it 33-6 with 9:18 to go in the period.
Blair Oaks made it 33-12 when Jordan Hair hit Haydn Lock for a 1-yard touchdown pass with 7:26 to go in the third quarter.
It didn’t take long for the Spartans to respond, as Palmer scored again to make it 41-12 with 5:42 left in the third.
Hair hit Lock for an 8-yard score with 2:54 to go in the third to make it 41-18 before Moberly’s Dimaja Smith scored on an 11-yard run with 21 seconds left in the period to make it 48-18.
Moberly finished the contest with 328 yards on 38 carries, went 10-of-21 passing for 328 yards and had 14 first downs. Blair Oaks rushed 38 times for 191 yards, went 27-of-41 passing for 238 yards and had 23 first downs.
Blair Oaks (0-1) looks for its first win of the season Friday against Owensville.
