The Travel Channnel's "Ghost Adventures" is broadcasting an episode filmed in Jefferson City in April at the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) at 8 p.m. Sept. 6.

The "Ghost Adventures" team is billed as investigating the most legendary haunted places on the planet. Crews interview eye witnesses and historians on site who may have experienced paranormal activity. They then use the information to determine where they will investigate during their dusk-to-dawn lockdown.

While at the penitentiary, the crew filmed several re-enactments that will be featured in the episode. Local actors from around Jefferson City helped to re-enact the 1954 riot and the double execution of Bonnie Heady and Carl Hall.

The crew took particular interest in Housing Unit 3, which houses death row; Housing Unit 4, the oldest housing unit on the property; and the gas chamber.

Before it closed in 2004, MSP was the oldest continually operating prison west of the Mississippi. Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau began offering tours of the decommissioned prison in 2009.
