NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Lindsay Whalen scored 18 points while Maya Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty 73-47 on Tuesday night.

Minnesota (21-7) maintained a one-game lead on Los Angeles for first place in the Western Conference. The Sparks beat Connecticut later Tuesday night. The Lynx also lead Chicago by a game for the league's best record.

New York (11-17) fell 1 1/2 games behind Indiana for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Liberty will host the Fever on Friday night.

The Lynx scored the first seven points of the game and New York could never get closer than three the rest of the way.

Cappie Pondexter scored 13 points to lead New York. She is 24 short of becoming the 12th player in league history to reach 5,000 career points.

SPARKS 91, SUN 78

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Candace Parker scored 28 points, Nneka Ogwumike had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Los Angeles beat Connecticut.

Lindsey Harding added 18 points to help the Sparks (20-8) remain one game behind Minnesota for first place in the Western Conference. Parker also had seven assists.

Iziane Castro Marques scored 19 points and Tina Charles had 18 points and nine rebounds as Connecticut (7-20) has lost five straight for the first time since 2009.

Connecticut cut an 18-point third-quarter deficit to five on a 3-pointer by Castro Marques with 6:40 remaining. The Sparks called timeout and Parker began an 11-2 run with a tough baseline shot and ended it with free throws.

STORM 72, SILVER STARS 71

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Tina Thompson had 27 points and 13 rebounds to help Seattle hold off San Antonio.

Camille Little had 14 points and Tanisha Wright added 11 as the Storm (14-14) won the season series against the Silver Stars to claim a possible tiebreaker if the teams close the season tied.

Jia Perkins scored 17 points, Shenise Johnson had 16, Davellyn Whyte added 14 and Danielle Adams 13 for San Antonio (10-18).

Johnson made a 3-pointer, stole the inbounds pass from Thompson and fed Perkins for a 3 that pulled San Antonio within 72-71 with 1.7 seconds remaining.

Whyte stole the ensuing inbounds and flung the ball in an apparent shot, which Thompson grabbed. The referees conferred and decided the game clock, which did not start, should have expired in the final chaotic possession and ruled the game over.
