Sheriff probing cow shooting last Friday

Cole County Sheriff Greg White said Monday his staff still is investigating a Friday night shooting near Lohman, that killed a pregnant cow and its calf.

Owner Tammy Goldammer's property is on state Route U, northeast of Russellville and west of Lohman.

The sheriff's department listed the incident as a "property destruction" on its log, published in Sunday's newspaper.

In an e-mail, White said: "The cow was shot. (We are) currently following leads."

Because it remains an open investigation, law officers are not required to release any details of their investigation, or what they've found so far.

Goldammer faces no such restriction, using a blog and Facebook to describe the crime.

On her blog site, tammyscowdogs.wordpress.com, Goldammer wrote the incident happened between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. Friday.

"Here is what some folks do on a Friday night," she wrote. "They drive into your gate entry, sit 5-10 minutes (then) do a burn out and head South on (Route) U.

"About 15 minutes later they return.

"They pull into your pasture gate, roll down the passenger window and shoot your cattle ... peel out and head North."

She described the suspect vehicle as a "late-model, '90s white 2-door Blazer with a football size rust out on passenger side behind lower door."
