Saturday, August 24, 2013
The St. Peter Conference of the Society of St. Vincent dePaul received a $3,000 grant from Three Rivers Electric Cooperatives Helping Hands Foundation to help with their mission of providing a free monthly community meal to the needy and homeless in Jefferson City.
The society began serving free meals in 2011 at the parish and served an average of 12 people. Currently, about 60 meals are served each month at Salvation Army.
All meals are cooked and served by volunteers. A typical meal consists of meat, potatoes, vegetable, salad or soup, and dessert.
The grant will cover meals for the next 15-18 months.
