Boost BBQ tonight supplements cancer assistance

Naught-Naught Agency is hosting the 21st annual Boost BBQ fundraiser from 4:30-7 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds, 1445 Fairgrounds Road.

The event includes barbecue cooked by Naught-Naught Agency employees and friends, and a silent auction that includes items such as fall and Christmas wreaths, floral arrangements, furniture, pictures and University of Missouri items. There will also be a raffle for a $1,000 cash prize.

Admission, which includes dinner, is $15. All proceeds benefit the Boost nutritional and supplement program at Goldschmidt Cancer Center.

"All the money stays locally," said Sharon Naught, a barbecue committee member. "It provides nutritional supplements and wigs to those with cancer, as well as helps fund the Road to Recovery transportation program."

The program provides cancer patients transportation to and from treatment.

Naught said the annual fundraiser usually raises $30,000-35,000. As many as 1,000 people have attended the event at one time.

She said today's barbecue is in honor of Nancy Frappier, Bob Schulte, Jack Curtit and Bernie Fechtel, all people affected by cancer.

"The weather is supposed to be beautiful, so for $15, come for great food, fun and raffle items," Naught said.
