SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Danielle Adams and Danielle Robinson scored 20 points each and the San Antonio Silver Stars beat Phoenix 88-82 on Saturday night, handing the Mercury their first loss under interim coach Russ Pennell.

Jia Perkins added 17 points and Shenise Johnson had 15 for San Antonio (9-15). Robinson, sporting a pink Mohawk in honor of the team's Breast Cancer Awareness Night, also had eight assists while going 10 for 11 on free throws in a chippy contest between the Western Conference rivals.

Diana Taurasi scored 23 points, Charde Houston had 15, Brittney Giner added 11 and Candice Dupree 10 for Phoenix (13-12), which had won three straight since Pennell replaced Corey Gaines on Aug. 8.

Phoenix had 44 points in the paint compared to 28 by San Antonio, but the Silver Stars' backcourt dominated their Mercury counterparts.

STORM 77, FEVER 70

SEATTLE (AP) - Tina Thompson scored 14 of her 23 points in the second half to lead the Storm and became the third WNBA player with 3,000 career rebounds.

Tanisha Wright added 16 points and Shekinna Stricklen 15 for Seattle (11-13), which has won two of three and remained two games ahead of San Antonio for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Tamika Catchings had 21 points for Indiana (11-14), which has lost three straight and four of five. Briann January scored 17 points and Eriana Larkins added 14 points and nine rebounds. The Fever fell one game behind third-place Washington in the Eastern Conference, and had their lead over fifth-place New York trimmed to one-half game.
