Commission advances two parking requests

Two requests to extend parking limits in the downtown area soon will go to the Jefferson City Council.

At the Traffic and Transportation Committee meeting Tuesday, commissioners approved a citizen request to increase the time limit for parking in the 500 block of East High Street from two hours to four hours.

The request was brought by Lois Hogan who resides on the street and is unable to park her vehicle in front of her home without moving it every two hours to avoid a ticket.

The commission also approved a staff request to increase the time limit on two parking spaces in the 200 block of Madison Street. Operations Division Director Britt Smith said two spaces near the intersection of Madison Street and East Capitol Avenue have 30-minute time limits when the rest of the downtown area parking has 90-minute limits. Smith said the 30-minute limit was because a bank used to be located in the Governor Office Building.

Both requests will advance to the full council for review.
