Missouri Top 50 and Junior Top 50 artists named

SEDALIA, Mo. - Award-winning entries in Fine Arts were recognized at a reception held Wednesday, Aug. 7, on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia. Winners were named in the Missouri Top 50 and Missouri Junior Top 50 categories, as well as those taking honors in open, photography and porcelain art categories.

Those individuals receiving Missouri Top 50 $800 cash awards were Steve Gorman of Independence, Dustin Mothersbaugh of Ionia, Matt Rahner of Columbia and Lauren Seider of Centralia.

Those honorable mention recipients in the same category were Michael McConeghy of Pleasant Hope, Dylan Mize of Warrensburg, Nora Othic of Brookfield and Sarah Nguyen of Warrensburg.

Those individuals receiving Missouri Junior Top 50 $80 cash awards were Byron Guertzgen of Louisiana, Leevi Walker of Bevier, Deena-Leigh Stanley of Carrollton and McKinley White of Bowling Green.

Those honorable mention recipients in the same category were Spencer Butler of Louisiana, Johnathon Walker of Bevier, Hollee Akers of Sedalia and Byron Guertzgen, of Louisiana.

During the reception, State Fair Community College of Sedalia also made a $500 art purchase. This piece, and other art entries, will be on display in the Fine Arts Building throughout the Missouri State Fair.

Several Artists-in-Residence will also be providing demonstrations of sculpting, painting and other artistic medium in the Fine Arts Building throughout the State Fair. Victoria Weaver will demonstrate mixed media sculpting from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 12; Shirley Horacek will demonstrate collage skills from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 10-11; Scott Linsenbardt will demonstrate watercolor techniques from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 12-16; Nora Othic will demonstrate pastel art from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 14-18; and Ben Franklin will demonstrate mixed media art from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17-18.

The Fine Arts Building, like most buildings on the fairgrounds, is air conditioned and is just one of several buildings hosting competitive exhibits and demonstrations. For building schedules, visit the schedules section of the Fair's website, or an information booth on the fairgrounds.
