Body of missing Mo. man found in river

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Authorities say the body of a missing St. Louis area man has been found in a canal on the Mississippi River.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/17fsNCn) that 46-year-old Dennis J. McMenamy of Richmond Heights had been missing since Friday after the Illinois Conservation Police found his empty fishing boat. His body was found Saturday afternoon about 100 yards north of a canal near Granite City, Ill.

The search for McMenamy began Friday afternoon when the crew of a towboat spotted the 18-foot fishing boat trapped at the front of a 15-barge tow headed south near the Chain of Rocks Canal.

Authorities said the towboat operators were unaware the barge had hit anything until another boater alerted them to the fishing boat stuck at the front of the tow.
