Your Opinion: Senseless squabbling in government

Dear Editor:

It is said that civilization happens when humanity becomes capable of changing their environment. What would happen if humanity could change themselves?

Much like early man, people fear what they don't understand.

Our goals and values became scattered, along with our schools and interstructure.

The government lies like rabbits breed and doesn't respect the Constitution or its checks and balances.

Of all intents and purposes America needs to move forward.

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors, must arm themselves with the power that knowledge gives," James Madison.

Aristotle described democracy as government by and of the people and also for the good of all.

If a government ruled only for the benefit of those in authority not for the good of all it was called corrupt.

All laws, rules, and regulations of the public power structure in the United States may be tested by the nation's constitutional principles. Does a certain law promote a more perfect union? Does a certain rule establish justice? Do certain regulations promote the general welfare or insure domestic tranquility or secure the blessings of liberty? It the answer is no in any case, the law, rule or regulation would be unconstitutional (violating the Constitution.)

I am of the opinion that the method of selecting U.S. Supreme Court justices should be significantly changed.

The Constitution sets no qualifications for justices and once appointed, justices may remain in office for life.

The mortality rate for white males in late 18th century America was approximately 45 years. The founders never intended for justices to have lived past 90 years.

The government is putting justices into boxes and categories as their political prism.

I'll be as forthcoming as I can be, not since the American Civil War have we seen the senseless squabbling between our elected representatives in Washington as we do today. Republicans read the Constitution for what it says. Democrats read the Constitution for what it can say.

What Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty did in Boston was spread the word about the abuses of the British. They had Committees of Correspondence that got the word out to the colonies.

"May America possess always the integrity, the courage and the strength to keep its self unshackled, to remain a citadel of freedom and a beacon of hope to the world." Unknown author.
