Local Muslims to celebrate end of Ramadan

The Jefferson City Muslim Community will celebrate Eid-al-Fitr at 9 a.m. Thursday with a sermon and prayers, followed by breakfast.

An Eid dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Friday.

The Islamic celebration culminates the holy month of Ramadan, during which followers fast, pray and offer charity.

Muslims around the world will mark the end of this holy month with special prayers, community and family gatherings, cultural cuisine and exchanging presents.

The local Muslim community was established in 1991 and opened at its current location in 2008.

The community includes followers from a variety of nationalities.
