Auxvasse man held on weapons charges

Michael W. Smith, 22, Auxvasse, is in the Callaway County Jail after a manhunt Saturday near Fulton stemming from a report of an armed intruder.

Smith was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office reported receiving a call at 2:17 a.m. Saturday about an assault involving a gun at the Green Meadows Trailer Park near Fulton.

Deputies said when they arrived, Smith fled into the nearby woods.

The victim told deputies Smith was found in the residence, and when confronted, he produced a firearm and threatened the victim.

Members of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, Fulton Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol conducted an extensive manhunt of the area, but Smith was not found.

Deputies reported Smith later Saturday morning turned himself in at the Callaway County Sheriff's Office in Fulton. At that time, he was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Smith is in the Callaway County Jail on $20,000 bond.
