Jays blank Hickman in tennis

COLUMBIA — The Jefferson City Jays shrugged off the rust of a 10-day layoff in beating Hickman 9-0 on Wednesday.

The Jays lost just one set in singles. Winners were Sam Johnson (6-3, 6-1), David Clausen (6-4, 3-6, 10-8 tiebreaker), David Steinmeyer (6-1, 6-1), Spencer Bone (6-0, 6-3), Isaac Roling (6-0, 6-1), and Rex Michitisch (6-0, 6-0).

Doubles winners were Johnson and Clausen (9-7), Roling and Bone (6-3, 4-6, 10-7 tiebreaker), and Steinmeyer and Dalton Doyle (6-1, 7-5).

Jefferson City (6-4) is back in action today at Waynesville.
